Model
During the mid-1990s, under the leadership of Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari made a significant effort to revive its once-revered line of traditional front-engined Grand Tourers. The Ferrari 550 was born. Styled by Pininfarina, like its illustrious ‘Daytona’ predecessor, the 550 Maranello was similarly proportioned, adopting the classic Ferrari formula: a front-mounted V12 engine, long bonnet, and manual gearbox. The body’s aerodynamics were developed in a wind tunnel, where hours of testing ensured minimal drag combined with constant downforce, regardless of the setup—an important consideration for a car capable of 320 km/h.
By the years leading up to 2002, competitors had begun to close in on its performance. Ferrari raised the stakes with the introduction of the 575M (M for Modificata, not to be confused with Maranello). The 575M was a sharper, faster, and lighter Grand Tourer. With its advanced electronic adaptive damper control system, the car could instantly adjust to varying road conditions. Weight was reduced to 1,730 kg, and special attention was given to improving the brakes, which featured larger Brembo cross-drilled and ventilated discs.
This Motor Car
This particular 575 was sold new by Ferrari dealer Mellin Sportwagen GmbH in Berlin, Delivered in the exquisite specification of a Nero exterior and interior, the car was specified with the incredibly sought after options of a manual gearbox and Fiorano handling package Which included stiffer springs, a lower ride height, re-tuned steering software for less assistance at low speeds and uprated brake pads with red calipers. It is estimated that only 246 (177 LHD) 575 were built with the manual gearbox, although there are no official production numbers on how many of the 2056 cars had the Fiorano handling package. A rough estimate would be 20%, making this manual example with the Fiorano handling pack one of the most desirable versions of the 575 line. Other options were 19-inch split-rim alloy wheels, carbon-backed sports seats with Ferrari-branded racing harnesses, a Ferrari-branded Becker stereo, and a footwell-mounted fire extinguisher.
The service book shows that the car remained in Berlin, where it was maintained by Scuderia Berlin Ferrari, until around 2007. It was then imported to the Netherlands and subsequently to the United Kingdom, where it stayed until approximately 2020, receiving regular servicing from Lancaster Ferrari Colchester. Before arriving in Sweden, the car spent some time in Italy, where, in November 2022, Ferrari Classiche issued a certificate of authenticity, confirming its originality.
After MOTIKON acquired the car, we conducted a mechanical inspection and service, including a cam belt replacement, to ensure it performs as well mechanically as it does cosmetically, addressing all identified issues. Invoices totaling 128,000 SEK for the work done are included in the sale.
To conclude, we present a Ferrari Classiche-certified example of one of the last analog Ferraris, in one of the most desirable specifications. Included in the sale are the owner’s book pack, service book, Ferrari Classiche Certificate of Authenticity and various invoices. A full list of executed work, along with history, pictures, and videos, can be provided upon request. Do not hesitate to get in touch.
