Jaguar E-Type Series 2 Roadster – 1969

A very well-preserved example of the legendary E-Type roadster, finished in an eye-catching hue and with low mileage from new. Under the bonnet sits a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated inline-six, delivering around 265bhp and 283lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays just 49, which is believed to be entirely accurate. One of 8, 627 Series 2 roadsters produced, this left-hand drive E-Type’s authenticity is confirmed by a Heritage Trust Certificate, which will be supplied with the vehicle.
Introduced in 1968, the Series 2 E-Type features a number of cosmetic changes compared to its predecessor, which were largely introduced to satisfy U.S. safety regulations. Furthermore, the front grille was enlarged for improved cooling, a wrap-around rear bumper was fitted, and the front indicator and taillights were repositioned. Finished in the vibrant hue of Signal Red with a black hood, this example features a black leather-trimmed cabin accented by a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and rides on the correct set of polished wire wheels with Jaguar-branded hub nuts. It is accompanied by a Heritage Trust Certificate, tool wrap and spare wheel.
The Signal Red paintwork is in good condition, though this cannot be confirmed.
The original black leather upholstery is free from any rips or tears and presents very well, and the switchgear is in excellent order. Only a few minor blemishes and signs of wear are present around the cabin commensurate with its age, including some creasing to the seats and a few cracks on the steering wheel emblem. This E-Type was most recently serviced in January 2020 at 49, 020 miles by Malta Classic Car Museum, who changed the engine oil and filter, and added a silicone-based brake fluid. Prior to this, the engine oil and filter were refreshed in 2017. Other minor maintenance work undertaken during the seller’s ownership includes changing hoses and clips when required.
This E-Type Series 2 is a stunning example of the 1960s classic British roadster, first unveiled in its 4.2-litre form in 1965 when it received widespread praise for its potent straight-six engine and design, previously crowned “the most beautiful car ever made” by Enzo Ferrari. Offered in sound cosmetic and mechanical order, this eye-catching classic convertible is sure to enhance any collection, and would make for a usable and thoroughly stylish companion for spirited top-down drives through the countryside.
