Lamborghini Countach – 1975

Lamborghini Countach LP400 “Periscopio”
“It sits there like a Preying Mantis, ready to pounce, a menacing, wicked, scarlet being with a cheetah’s look of speed, at rest, Stylish, outlandish, a tribute to the car maker’s art and probably the fastest true production road car in the world.”
Clive Richardson, Motorsport magazine December 1977.Model description
Ask any enthusiast what the ultimate poster car is, and most will probably come up with the same answer:The Lamborghini Countach. Looking back at the countless iterations of the iconic supercar, none holds greater appeal to avid collectors than the original LP400, distinguished by its clean wingless design and the “Periscopio” roof tunnel. The Countach´s timeless design will forever be held in high regard by any true enthusiast.
In 1970 the legendary Miura had started to age. In one of his last projects for the company, Ferruccio Lamborghini commissioned a successor to the revolutionary mid engined supercar to be built. The task called for a design that could maximize performance as well as being both aerodynamically efficient and aesthetically daring.
Chief Engineer Paolo Stanzani awarded the now legendary designer Marcello Gandini the job of designing the car. Following his work on the Miura, Gandini embarked on experimenting with wedge-shaped concept cars. The Countach became the first “Wedge” car to transition into production, a design trend that would go on to influence the aesthetics of supercars for decades, still evident in modern Lamborghinis.
The Countach used the existing V12 Engine built by none other than Giotto Bizzarini, but in contrast to the Miura’s transversely mounted engine, Paolo Stanzani decided to mount the engine in the Countach longitudinally to improve weight distribution for better handling. This layout was a first for a road-going V12 and another revolutionary solution which continues to influence supercars till this day.
First introduced in concept car form at the 1971 Geneva Motor show. The Car in its original LP400 form first made it into production in 1974. Not only did the Countach set a new
standard for how a supercar should look. It also outdated every other car you could buy at the time. Unfortunately for Lamborghini the LP400 version of the Countach was launched in the wake of an oil crisis resulting in only 151 being built. Making it even more collectible and special in today’s world. This Motor Car
This particular example started its life in Germany where it was sold new. It was delivered to its first owner in red with a black interior. Shortly thereafter, it made its way to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. Finally, after spending more than a decade basking in the Sunshine State – where the interior was reupholstered to yellow – it made its way to Sweden.
On May 10th, 1989, this LP 400 arrived in Gothenburg to Rune Svensson, a Volvo Transport director and an active member of the International Lamborghini owners club. He cherished the Countach for almost 15 years until 2005 when the car was sold to Stockholm.
The new owner: A man of taste, disapproved of the red and yellow specification and commissioned the car to be repainted and reupholstered to the current beautiful combination of a silver exterior paired with a brown leather interior. One could say a classier specification than the previous “Mcdonalds” red and yellow.
The Countach is everything a supercar should be: Futuristic, Fast, Impractical, Loud and an absolute must have for any serious car collection. This is a marvelous low mileage example of the rare LP400 in suitable driving condition which recently was serviced by our expert team at MOTIKON.
The car can be viewed in our Uppsala showroom. A full list of the executed work, as well as history, pictures and videos can be sent in case of serious interest. Do not hesitate to get in touch.
