Land Rover 88 Series 2 – 1960

This 1960 Land Rover 88 Series II Pick-Up was built for export in left-hand drive configuration. It retains its original drivetrain in full and is equipped with the rare 2.1-liter diesel engine. It has just 65,000 kilometers on its odometer and has been fully restored with complete originality in mind.
The diesel was purchased mainly by companies and thus used the way Maurice Wilks, chairman of Rover at the time, intended. In other words, they were often used in the most utilitarian ways, and many were driven into the ground. That makes this remarkable diesel powered 1960 Land Rover Series II a rarity indeed.
The Series II was a further development of the Series I, and certainly played on all its strengths. The team at Rover was keen on retaining the features that made the Series I so admired while improving it for the ever-growing and demanding clientele.
The idea of a military and practical vehicle that could take on any terrain in any part of the world and offer unmatched reliability was further developed with the famous Oxford and Cambridge Trans-Africa Expedition as well as Far Eastern Expedition.
The Series II allowed for a complete engine overhaul to be done with the engine block remaining in the engine bay. Several similar design features allowed the Series II to be a robust and reliable companion in all parts of the world.
This Land Rover 88 Series II was wholly renovated during the winter of 2010 and 2011, and since then, it has been improved continuously over the years. In later years, it went through an engine renovation using parts from a low-milage car since parts are no longer readily available.
It has been refurbished to a formidable standard; wherein many incorrect parts have been updated to the original specifications. It has been used by companies and privateers and has undergone extensive updates during its 63 years on the road.
The car is in impeccable condition and is ready for its next adventure. It is merely a matter of turning the key and being on your way as it’s both mechanically and cosmetically sound. The rare Series II short-wheelbase specification and the sought-after diesel engine make it a must-have specimen.
